Information on Battery Disposal
In connection with the sale of batteries or the delivery of devices containing batteries, we are required to inform you of the following:
Batteries must not be disposed of with household waste.
You can either return used batteries—which we currently carry or have previously carried as new batteries in our product range—to us at your own expense or return them free of charge to our distribution center (shipping address). Alternatively, you can drop off the batteries at local collection points.
As an end user, you are legally required to return used batteries so that they can be recycled or disposed of properly.
Used batteries may contain hazardous substances that can harm the environment or your health if not stored or disposed of properly. However, batteries also contain important raw materials, such as iron, zinc, manganese, or nickel, and can be recycled.
The symbols shown on the batteries have the following meanings:
The symbol of the crossed-out trash can means that the battery must not be disposed of with household waste.
For batteries containing a certain mass of lead, cadmium, or mercury, the following additions below the crossed-out trash can symbol indicate the respective hazardous substances:
Pb = Battery contains more than 0.004 percent by mass of lead
Cd = Battery contains more than 0.002 percent by mass of cadmium
Hg = Battery contains more than 0.0005 percent by mass of mercury
Information on the associated costs pursuant to Article 56(4) of the EU Battery Regulation (Regulation 2023/1542) can be found on the “Batterie-Zurück” initiative’s website.
Special Provisions Regarding the Sale of Starter Batteries
In connection with the sale of starter batteries, if you are an end consumer, we are required under Section 19 of the German Battery Act (BattDG) to charge a deposit of 7.50 euros, including sales tax, per starter battery if you do not return a used starter battery at the time of purchasing a new one. The deposit is not included in the purchase price and is listed separately from the final price on the product page.
If you return a used starter battery to us that we currently carry or have previously carried in our product range as a new battery in accordance with Section 18 of the BattDG, we are required by law to accept it free of charge and refund the deposit amount.
If we have issued a deposit token in accordance with Section 19(1), Sentence 3 of the BattDG, the refund of the deposit upon return of the used starter battery is contingent upon the return of the deposit token.
The return address is listed in the legal notice.
Returning the used starter battery by mail is not permitted under the Hazardous Materials Ordinance.
Alternatively, used starter batteries can also be dropped off free of charge at recycling centers. The deposit we collect is not refunded by public recycling centers. However, you have the option there to have the return of the used starter battery acknowledged on the deposit token. Upon presentation of the receipted deposit tag, we will refund the battery deposit to you. If no deposit tag was issued, proof of return from the authorized person is sufficient. In this case, the proof must not be older than two weeks at the time of presentation.
